Peace for an Anxious Heart

“In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7
Anxiety rarely knocks. It lets itself in, sits down at your table, and starts listing everything that could go wrong. And the cruellest part is how reasonable it sounds. It never says be afraid. It says be prepared, and then it never lets you rest.
Notice that Paul does not say the worry is silly. He does not tell you to think positively or to be stronger than you are. He tells you to do something with it — to take the whole heavy armful of it and set it down in front of God. Not tidied up. Not made presentable. Just handed over.
What comes back is not what you would have asked for. Not that the problem vanishes. Not that you will suddenly understand why. He promises peace that surpasses all understanding — the strange, quiet steadiness that arrives before the answer does, and often without one.
Here is the whole of it, small enough to carry: you were never asked to hold this alone. Say the thing out loud to God today, plainly, even clumsily. He has heard worse, and He has never once looked away.
A Prayer for Today
Lord, I am carrying more than I can hold. I am setting it down here, in front of You. Guard my heart while I rest. Amen.
